JAPAN KARATE ASSOCIATION of BROOKLYN
The Japan Karate Association of Brooklyn, founded in 1972, offers training in traditional Shotokan Karate-Do. The school is affiliated with the Japan Karate Association (JKA), a world-wide organization dedicated to encourage and assist students in their growth and understanding of Shotokan, and to promote the development of the art generally. It is also a member of Shotokan Karate-do International (SKDI). SKDI operates out of New York City and serves as the headquarters for many JKA clubs worldwide.
Classes are taught by Sensei Shu Takahashi, 7th dan. Sensei Takahashi is a JKA-licensed A-class tournament judge, A-class examiner and A-class instructor, as well as a member of the JKA Shihankai. He teaches karate at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, and has taught at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) from 1983 to 1997. Sensei Takahashi has studied under Sensei Mori, 9th dan, since 1963.
